Gerhard Müller

Gerhard Müller studied violin in Karlsruhe with Josef Rissin, but quickly became interested in historical performance practice. After several years as an orchestral musician, he joined the Capella Coloniensis and was a member of the German Handel Soloists. He studied cultural management in Cologne, founded an artists’ agency and organised festivals before turning intensively to pedagogy. From 2001-2008 he was head of the music school in Giengen an der Brenz, from 2009 – 2020 he was director of Bern Conservatory. Since 2011, he is member of the expert commission of the Swiss Youth Music Competition. As a violist, Gerhard Müller is a founding member of the Rasumowsky Quartet, with whom he has performed internationally since 2001. In 2006, they recorded all of Dmitri Shostakovich’s string quartets for Oehms, in 2017 the first recording of the string quartets by the Swiss Romantic composer Theodor Friedrich Fröhlich for cpo and in 2022 the first recording of Albert Moeschinger’s string quartets for Naxos. Gerhard Müller is a German-Swiss dual citizen and lives near Bern (CH).
