Katharina Hardy ז״ל

Hungarian-born Katharina Hardy is an instructor-performer of violin. She holds a diploma as a soloist from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, her most important instructors being Kodaly, Weiner and Gabriel. She gave numerous solo and chambermusic recitals in Switzerland – where she has been living since 1956 – and abroad, and frequently appeared as a soloist with orchestras, performing both classical and modern works. Many of her performances were recorded and broadcasted by the radio stations of Zurich, Lausanne, Lugano and Budapest. As an orchestra musician, she was a member of the Winterthur Symphony Orchestra for 18 years, from which she acted as principal of the second violin for 13 years. She also played in the Zurich Tonhalle- and Zurich Opera Orchestras. Since 1985 she has devoted her time mainly to instruction – for many years as a faculty member for Violin at the Conservatory of Winterthur. She founded the Goppisberg Music Festival in 1987.
