Johannes Vornhusen

Cello / Germany

Johannes Vornhusen grew up in the beautiful Münsterland region in a family of musicians. Already in his youth he developed an enthusiasm for music. He was a member of the Federal Youth Orchestra and a national prize winner in the solo competition “Jugend musiziert”.

He completed his cello studies with distinction at the Karlsruhe University of Music with Prof. Martin Ostertag. Several years of studies at university with lecturer Bernhard Lörcher and a study period at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with Prof. Anthony Elliott shaped his later career.

Numerous master classes attended during his studies with renowned cellists such as J.-P. Mainz, Troels Svane, W. Boettcher or Wen-Sing Yang helped him develop new ideas. During his studies he played a foundation cello belonging to the collection of the Federal State of Baden-Wurttemberg and participated in chamber music projects of Villa Musica.

In addition to his music studies, Johannes Vornhusen began taking lessons in Alexander Technique in 2010 and subsequently took up a training of several years in this field. Since 2019 he has been working as a certified and active teacher of the Alexander-Technique (ATVD), gaining experience with renowned Alexander Technique teachers such as Shmuel Nelken (Israel), Giora Pinkas (USA), Yehuda Kupermann (USA), Richard Brennan (Ireland) and Alex Farkas (USA).

In his student days he performed with the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and other ensembles as a young musician, and since 2015 has been a member of the Badisches Staatstheater Orchestra in Karlsruhe. In 2019 he was appointed deputy solo cellist in the same orchestra. In addition to his orchestral activities, Johannes Vornhusen plays in the musical trio “Inspire” founded by him.
